About Us

The Computer Centre is the university's central IT service provider. It makes its IT services available to students and members of the University of Würzburg.

In its beginnings, it was attached to the Institute of Mathematics on Röntgenring. As the need for additional computing power and a variety of other tasks relating to communication and information technology arose, the computer centre became independent as a central facility.

The buildings used today were occupied in 1974 and 1983.

Behind all the server systems and network components are people. So take a look at our employees for yourself. You will also learn something about the organisational structure.

The computer centre is functionally divided into the following areas:

  • Management
  • Server and cloud services
  • Networks and infrastructure
  • IT support, training and multimedia
  • applications
  • IT security staff unit

At the end of 2024, the data centre had 57 employees, nine of whom were part-time, to carry out its extensive range of tasks. 12 of these positions are temporary.

In order to maintain the wide range of services, around 15 student assistants were employed in the departments each month. The computer centre is also a training centre. At the end of 2024, it employed two trainee IT specialists specialising in system integration.
